Romans 8:14-17 The Spirit of Adoption

The reason why believers are no longer in debt to the flesh is no given. They owe the flesh nothing because they have been adopted into a new family. Believers have a new relationship with God as their Father and they have the rights and privileges of sonship.

Romans 8:12-14 Freedom From The Flesh

Paul demonstrates that believers are not debtors to the flesh and shows the reasons why this is so. Believers are compelled to fight against remaining sin and put it to death as we grow in our sanctification

Romans 8:5-11 In The Flesh Or In The Spirit

Paul explains what it means to walk in the flesh or walk in the Spirit. Believers are "in the Spirit" because the Spirit dwells in them and they have been transformed. The new heart desires Christ and believers set their minds on the things of the Spirit

Romans 8:1-4 The Foundation of "No Condemnation"

Paul not only shows that there is no condemnation to the one who is in Christ, but he also tells us why there can be no condemnation for one who has been born again.

Romans 8:1 Freedom From Condemnation

Paul follows on the heels of describing the battle with sin to say that there is no condemnation for those in Christ. There is no verdict of condemnation against believers, nor is there an existence under condemnation for those in Christ.

Romans 7:14-25 Welcome To The War

One of the most difficult texts in the NT. Paul shows the believer that there is a war between the flesh and the "inner man." This is the normal Christian life. There is a battle that rages until we see Jesus. The Believer desires to keep God's law perfectly, but the ability to do so is simply not within his power.

Romans 7:7-13 The Law and The Christian Life

Paul demonstrates that the law is not the problem. The law is holy and righteous. Our sin is the problem. The law is necessary for the Christian life. The law reveals the presence and power of sin. The law brings us to the end of self, and the law shows the sinfulness of sin

Romans 7:1-6 Living Not "Under Law"

Paul continues teaching how believers walk in the gospel of grace. The end of chapter six showed us what it means to live under grace. Now Paul returns to show the church what it means that we do not live under the law.

Romans 6:15-23 Living "Under Grace"

Paul continues to demonstrate why the grace of God does not incite more sin. In this section, we see that living under grace doesn't mean that we are free to sin. It means that we have been freed from our old master in order to serve our new one. Believers are free from the dominion of sin and now serve Christ. This doesn't mean that believers no longer sin but they are no longer obeying the master of sin, now there is a fight that takes place - and the end of this fight is eternal life for believers.

Romans 6:1-14 Since We Have Died To Sin

Romans 6 turns a corner and begins speaking about how believers actually walk in this gospel of grace. Paul said that when sin abounded, grace abounded more, but does that mean that believer are free to sin? Paul rejects this thought and shows that the grace of God also transforms a person and frees them from the dominion of sin.

Romans 5:12-21 The Greatness of Grace

Paul shows us the magnitude of our salvation by going all the way back to the foundation of our redemption. He shows that all mankind is united to either Adam or Christ. In Adam, death reigns over all, but in Christ, grace reigns.

Romans 5:3-11 Rejoicing in A Certain Hope

Paul shows us that even suffering itself cannot nullify the certainty of the hope we have in Christ. Believers will be saved finally from the wrath of God's judgment. But much more than that, we rejoice right now in God Himself.

Romans 4:18-25 The Character of Faith

NOTE: I repeatedly said "14 years" but it was 24 years between Abraham's promise and the birth of Isaac.

Paul shows us the characteristics of Abraham's faith. He believed despite all the circumstances and his faith grew as it overcame obstacles. Paul applies this to salvation in Christ saying that "it was counted to him as righteousness" was not written for him alone but for we who have trusted in the gospel.

Romans 4:9-17 By Faith Alone: Our Covenant Promise

Paul continues to discuss Abraham and his justification. Paul shows from the OT that Abraham was not justified by any work, religious rite, or obedience to law. He was justified by grace alone through faith. This is the same way man is justified today, by grace through faith.

Psalm 24 - Who Is This King of Glory?

The Psalmist speaks of God's authority and the requirement God has set upon fallen man. Man must have clean hands and a pure heart to be accepted before God. Only the King of Glory, God and man fulfilled that role.

Philippians 1:27-30 Living Worthy Of The Gospel

Paul exhorts the Philippians to live worthy of the gospel of Christ. He explains "worthy" by showing that it means to stand unified in the body, strive together for the faith, be fearless against opposition, and be ready to suffer for Christ's sake
