Jacob is running for his life. He is in a very desolate place and the promises of God don't look like they are possible now. Even though Jacob's heart does not yet belong to God, God is faithful to His promise and reaffirms His promise to Jacob. Jesus interprets the vision of Jacob's ladder for us in the New Testament.
